Winter Climbing in Stob
Coire Nan Lochan
February 9, 1999
Stob Coire Nan Lochan, at 3,658 feet, is one of the high peaks of the massif of Bidean nam Bian ("peak of the mountains"). The mountain's ridge enclose north-facing corries that provide reliable winter-climbing venues. Access to the corries from the A82 requires a tough but beautiful hike over the northwestern flank of Gearr Aonach with elevation gain of over 2,000 feet. The access paths are narrow at times, and in a few places, dangerously icy.

would start)

We climbed Boomerang Gully, a multi-pitch 700-foot winter Grade II (British) route to the left of the Summit Buttress.

Although the climb was steep, it was well-protected with plenty of belay opportunities.

the corrie. Time to enjoy the view)
